1979 Ducati 900 SS For Sale

·         Engine #08785X DM860

·         Frame #DM860SS 08759X

·         1273 Miles

This 1979 Ducati 900SS was bought in 2016.  It is in excellent running condition and looking great at 44 years old. The paint has good luster and the engine is clean and surfaces have minimal oxidation.

The original owner is said to have had a tip over and then not ridden it for many years.  The 2nd and previous owner got it back to really good shape. I went through all the finer details and freshened the bike up from 2016 to 2019.

It has 1273 miles on it.  The mileage can’t be guaranteed, however the engine is very clean and the cases had very minor case wear observed when a Bevel Heaven case saver was installed.  I have put 1000 miles on the bike, mostly mountain rides in the Sierras.

Equipment includes gold Marvic wheels, Ohlins DU 140 shocks, triple Brembo disc brakes with Galfer stainless-steel braided lines as well as more recent Dell’Orto PHM40 carburetors, Conti mufflers, a wrap-around fairing with a clear Gustafsson windscreen and a stepped two-up seat.

New parts include a reproduction kick starter, Dynatek coils, Marvic wheels with Avon tires, foot pegs, Woodcraft clip ons, LHS switch block, Ohlins shocks, Galfer brake lines, Brembo REC 15mm brake master cylinder, Brev-Orlandi fuel taps, regulator, O-ring aluminum intake manifolds, MBP valve collets, wiring harness.  Turn signals and a Rizoma mirror were also installed, the bike did not have them originally.  Parts and my mechanic's labor total just over $10,000, my labor was more than another 100 hours.

The tank is refinished and was painted red at some stage.  Work involved upgrading items to make it a good rider that is properly detailed (era correct clamps and fuel taps for instance) as opposed to being perfectly original.  I also like wiring cable ties and wiring sheaths to look professional and spent the time to get the small details right.  The paint shows some stress cracking but presents well.

All original parts have been kept and are available for sale separately.  These include the original carbs that were replaced by former owner (I didn't put them back on as it runs well with the current carbs), wheels, single seat, round front brake master cylinder, kick starter, shocks, coils, footpegs, LH switch block, horn, intake manifolds, Tomaselli clip-ons.  The original carbs, single seat, wheels and front brake master are included if the bike is sold for the asking price.

The PHM40 carburetors are jetted for the 4-5000’ altitude in Reno NV.  I have receipts and a spreadsheet that summarize all work done on the bike along with the current jetting that is available upon request. The valves were adjusted at around 300 miles and MPB collets were installed by DynaReno, Reno NV.  The previous owner replaced the ignition pick up wiring, the original wires commonly broke down due to immersion in engine oil.

Power is delivered to the rear wheel through a five-speed transmission and a 520 drive chain.  The rear sprocket is a 39 tooth with Titan Tuff Finish by Sprocket Specialties, the front is a 16 tooth.  They give a shorter 2.44 drive ratio that gives a better jump off the line and keeps the bike from lugging.

The bike is registered in NV and ridden several times a year.  I am selling the bike to fund other projects.

I ride and maintain my bikes with great enthusiasm. I am open to chatting and answering any questions that you may have.  I can share more photos and videos.
