1974 Ducati 750 Sport ~ For Sale
This bike
has been the subject of a very careful and lengthy restoration,
in her country of birth, Italy.
Her frame
and engine number put her firmly in the 3rd
production stage of 1974 (ie the last Sports ever built),
although she was not sold and registered for the road until July
14th 1975. She remains on her original UK
registration plate and I have all the original registration and
ownership documents.
The engine
has had a thorough rebuild consisting of basically all new
internals (pistons, big end bearing, crank and con-rods
balanced, all other bearings, gear set,) and is essentially
brand new. I've covered 60 miles since, just to check everything
was perfect and it is, but she will still need to be carefully
run in.
Wherever
possible I had restored and refinished her original parts rather
than just installing new stuff willy-nilly as I believe it's
important to try to keep the bike as original as possible.
Also, the
only changes I've made from original spec are ones that in my 30
years of experience with bevel Ducatis make her a much more
reliable, usable bike. For example, she was missing the Aprilia
fusebox but they are sooo unreliable and poorly made that they
are probably the most common reason for being stranded by the
roadside, thus I fitted a tiny discrete blade-type fuse box
under the seat that will never let you down.
I
installed a Tomaselli 2C Daytona throttle unit as trying to get
the carbs set up properly and to stay in good tune is extremely
difficult with the one-into-two splitter setup. Now she starts
first kick pretty well every time and idles and runs perfectly.
Another
small deviation from originality is that I added rubber trim
around the base of the seat (which, by the way, is a new
replacement). I did this because I feel the seat looks severely
unfinished without it and I don't like the way the bottom edge
of the fiberglass sits on and chafes against the rear frame
loop. The SS had this fitted but for some unknown reason not the
Sport. I can't help thinking it was a mistake! In any case, if
you don't like it, it can be removed in an instant.
The wiring
is all new, with soldered and (dielectric) greased connectors.
Naturally the entire electrical system works perfectly and will
do for a long time.
She comes
with two complete sets of three keys- ignition, steering and
seat hump.
The bike
was repainted a metallic cheery red very early on in her life;
this meant when I uncovered the original yellow underneath, it
was in perfect condition, unaffected by UV or pollution damage
which meant I was able to get a perfect computer match for the
new paint. I even asked the craftsman who applied the paint to
create a tiny amount of orange peel, just as the original paint
had. He reproduced it perfectly. Also, the transfers have been
applied onto the final finish with no clear coat over the top,
just as was done in 1974. The finish is superb.

Asking
price is $59,950
A 10%
deposit secures her, the rest to be paid when you see her all
crated up and ready for shipping.
As regards
crating, as I am not a 'certified crate builder' I cannot
construct a crate that is acceptable to either US or Australian
customs as a wooden crate has to be made from wood that's
stamped and certified as being free from insect pests or
disease. However I can instead construct a steel crate which
means no wood involved which means it is acceptable to the
customs. If you would like the steel crate made that will be at
your expense- US$750.
I can help
with arranging international shipping, but the shipping costs
would be yours.
I have
references available in the US, Europe and Australia.
The bike
is located here I live in central Italy.
