This bike was
purchased from the original owner in 2009. At that time, it had
just under 14,000 miles on it. Upon purchase, the carbs were
rebuilt, fuel tank cleaned and sealed, petcocks rebuilt, tires
replaced, chain replaced. For the electrical system, Dyna green
coils and electronic ignition was installed. A Ducati ST2
alternator with rare earth magnets and upgraded regulator has
also been installed. Because the fuse block had deteriorated
over the years a modern fuse block and relays were installed.
This last modification has made the electronics very reliable as
well as easy to start. All of the relays and the fuse block are
hiding behind the left side cover. The rear brake light switch
does not operate at this time.
As you can see
from the pictures, everything else is original. Paint, seat
cover, bars, hand grips, etc. are all original. There is a ding
on the front fender and a couple of paint chips on the front
edge. As with the rest of the bike, I was advised do not touch
it, it is only original once and this is a great example of what
Ducati built. It has the correct amount of patina. This bike
had been to Indianapolis twice during the MotoGP. In 2009 it
won an award for best vintage Ducati at Ducati Island, and in
2012 it took first place in Classic II at the Cycle World
Rolling Concours.
Included is the original
owner’s manual, original bill of sale and original parts. Currently the
bike is residing in the living room as it does every year. Once the snow
melts and the ground firms up it will be brought out and readied for the
riding season. This bike does get ridden, sparingly, but it does get
ridden. As with the original owner, this bike has never been ridden in the
rain. This was the pride of his fleet and has been with me but the time has
come for a new home.
Update: As of 4/7/19 the bike is now out of the living room, inspected and
running. It has been started, ridden and ready for the riding season.
