1959 Ducati 125 F3 Factory Production Race Bike

For Sale

This is a matching numbers 1959 F3 Ducati supplied new via Kings of Oxford (Stan Hailwood’s company) and raced in BEMSEE events in period, was also subsequently raced under the Mick Walker Racing banner.

Engine

Completely rebuilt by UK classic singles specialist, Moto Marianna.

Dismantled and inspected, vapor blasted, new bearings, new forged con rod and big end by Arrow to factory specs and safe to 14,000 RPM, new piston, rings, re-bored barrel, new valves made by G & S Valves, new valve springs, new seats and guides, all gears inspected and re-shimmed to better than factory tolerances.

Chassis work

Frame checked for true and repainted in correct metallic blue, new s/arm pin, bushes and headset, forks hard chrome plated and rebuilt, tank striped, tested, sealed and repainted in blue and silver, new megaphone rolled to original dimensions. New cables and wiring.

Wheels rebuilt with SS spokes.

New clip-on bars.

Non standard features

Improved head with up-rated Del-Orto SSI remote float carb, blended inlet tract and manifold. Exhaust megaphone with smaller reverse cone as per the factory GP bikes.

Period “Screen and Plastics” brand single race seat

Original small brakes replaced with larger Mondial race brakes, x-rayed and new bearings and linings.

New period style NJB rear race shocks as originals were past saving

Footrests re-made in stainless and controls in aluminum

Spares

Original parts to be included in sale, megaphone, con rod, valves, clip-on’s and levers, seat frame with springs etc. Race fairing in original paint, good condition with Mick Walker Racing on sides, original screen with no cracks!

Also a spare brand new Arrow con-rod and big end kit, front and rear sprockets, set up instructions, period “The Motorcycle” test article.

These race shop built little screamers are extremely rare, (cost as much as a Manx at that time) and beautifully crafted with special (sand not die) castings, straight cut bevel and primary gears, much machined and relieved flywheels, special adjustable cam lobe overlap and race valve angles in the externally oil fed head, even the inlet manifold is keyed to the head to ensure correct alignment and no step to interrupt gas flow. The bottom end is the same as the 125 GP and shares very little with the road bikes of the period.

The chassis is very different to the road bikes and much lighter with extra strength, even the forks are a different design with large diameter stanchions.

Ducati made a very small number of these bikes, reputedly circa 25.
